Prof. Dr. Tolga Özşen, Head of our Department, has been honored with the “Commendation of Consul General of Japan” in Istanbul

Prof. Dr. Tolga Özşen was found worthy of the “Consul General Commendation Award” for his significant academic and cultural contributions aimed at strengthening the ties between Türkiye and Japan. This award is presented on behalf of the Government of Japan by the Ambassador or Consul General to a limited number of individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and other nations.

Prof. Dr. Tolga Özşen received his award from the Consul General of Japan in Istanbul, Mr. Ryoji Iwama, at a special presentation ceremony held at the Consul General’s Official Residence on March 6, 2025.

During his speech at the ceremony, Consul General Ryoji Iwama emphasized Prof. Dr. Tolga Özşen’s long-standing studies in Japanology and his cultural-educational activities. Mr. Iwama stated that Özşen is not only an educator but also plays a vital role in bringing the cultural fabrics of the two societies closer together, noting that this recognition is an expression of gratitude on behalf of the State of Japan.

Sharing a message of scientific responsibility in his acceptance speech, Prof. Dr. Tolga Özşen said: "As a Japanologist, I will continue to understand and explain Japan in all its dimensions on a scientific basis, with an amateur spirit and professional consciousness."
